We have all been affected by the whale that was found full of plastic and the communal efforts to remove waste from the archipelago. In 2016, volunteers removed 377 tonnes of plastic waste from Norwegian bays, beaches, and rocks. In 2017, more than 1,300 tonnes of all kinds of marine waste were removed from the Norwegian coastline. Our commitment to a cleaner archipelago continues. We are constantly developing new types of packaging produced in a sustainable manner.
The plastic used today is made of fossil oil-based materials. Parts of this raw material will be replaced by plastic from renewable raw materials, i.e. ethanol made from sugar cane. We want to be able to offer our customers environmentally friendly solutions!
Packaging produced from renewable raw materials is labelled with a special eco-label, making it easier for customers to choose environmentally friendly options. It is important for us to be able to offer our customers sustainable food packaging.
Desom now offers more environmentally friendly packaging for food products. Part of the packaging is now replaced by a more bio-based plastic. This reduces the use of fossil materials in the packaging.

Clean oceans are society’s greatest competitive advantage. That is why we strive to take care of the beautiful nature that sustains us,’ says Maria G. E. Barroso, Sales and Marketing Director at Seaborn AS.
